the sun felt so close here.
i was begging for a warm embrace
cold pressure constricting lungs
obscure sight and aching eyes
body tired, but thrashing still
reaching out for that golden shimmer.
time was endless, depth was guess-less
i couldn’t quite remember how
the water dragged me down
cascading on top of me
temptation to inhale, ’til finally
surface breach, water’s retreat
air’s alleviation, sun in place.
saved by the culprit.
